Sophia I. Wlos, “Lolli", 97 of Tarpon Springs, Florida, formerly of East Amherst, New York passed away peacefully on January 6, 2018. Born in Buffalo, New York, she was the daughter of the late Blasé and Mary (Domagala) Grabowski. She graduated from Fosdick-Masten High School, went on to take accounting classes and worked for the Selective Service. She married Stanley J. Wlos in 1941. They had three children and enjoyed 47 years together, raising their family, traveling, golfing, spending winters in Florida and surrounding themselves with family and friends.
Sophia remained passionate about golf and was a member of Lancaster Country Club in New York and Cypress Run in Tarpon Springs, Florida. She enjoyed going to the theater and out to dinner with friends. Her competitive nature was not only evident on the golf course but with playing cards, bridge and mahjong. Her vivacious spirit, her energy and love of life was felt by all around her.
She was a faithful parishioner of St. Gregory the Great in Williamsville, NY and St. Ignatius in Tarpon Springs, Florida.
Sophia was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, her daughter Nancy (Martin) Scherrer and son David (Cynthia) Wlos.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter Kathleen (Michael) Wilson, her grandchildren Jeffrey (Ann) Scherrer, Marc (Rebecca) Scherrer, Todd (Lisa) Scherrer, Andrew (Marya) Wlos, Michael (Emily) Wlos, Meredith (Jeremy) Dunn, Lindsey Wilson, and her 13 great-grandchildren: Julia, Michael, Elizabeth, Catherine, Margaret, William, Amie, Adia, Henry, Fletcher, Benjamin, Jonah, and Samuel. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday January 12th from 4 to 8 pm at Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home, 5541 Main Street Williamsville, New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 13th at St. Gregory the Great RC Church, Maple Road, Williamsville, NY at 8:45am.
